THE MANIFESTO

SIX IDEAS THAT CHANGEHOW LEADERS SEE

01

WHAT IS A DECISION POINT?

A Decision Point is a meaningful moment between a developing situation and its eventual outcome — a moment when a leader still has real choices, and the choice made (or avoided) changes what happens next.

Decision Points are rarely announced. They look like ordinary moments: a complaint, a missed standard, a quiet employee, a skipped step. What makes them Decision Points is what they contain — the remaining optionality to change the trajectory.

02

WHY OUTCOMES INVOLVE MULTIPLE DECISIONS

Major organizational failures almost never begin with one catastrophic decision. They develop through a sequence of smaller Decision Points where someone could have intervened, corrected course, escalated appropriately, communicated, or stopped the problem from becoming worse.

CHOICE → DECISION POINT → ACTION → CONSEQUENCE → OUTCOME. Repeat that loop enough times without interruption and the outcome starts to look inevitable. It wasn’t. It was assembled.

03

SHRINKING OPTIONALITY

Earlier choices can eliminate better options later. Every Decision Point that passes without action quietly removes exits from the map. The conversation not had this month becomes the termination next quarter. The postponed repair becomes the incident report.

Leaders trained in the Decision Point Principle learn to ask not just ‘what should I do?’ but ‘what options will I lose if I wait?’

04

THE ESCALATION TRAP

One decision can create pressure for another. A small compromise makes the next compromise easier. A tolerated deviation resets the standard. Before long, the organization isn’t choosing its direction — momentum is choosing it.

PROBLEM → WARNING → DECISION POINT → INTERVENTION → DIFFERENT OUTCOME. The trap is broken at exactly one place: intervention.

05

INTERRUPTION POINTS

Interruption Points are moments when new information or circumstances allow leadership to change direction: a complaint filed, an audit finding, a near miss, a resignation letter, a question in a meeting that nobody wanted to answer.

These moments are gifts — temporary re-openings of options that were closing. Organizations that respond to interruption points recover cheaply. Organizations that punish the messenger stop receiving warnings.

06

DECISION POINT DISCIPLINE

Decision Point Discipline is creating enough space between stimulus and response to make deliberate choices. It is the practiced pause — the habit of asking ‘what decision is actually in front of me right now, and what does each option cost later?’

Discipline turns recognition into a repeatable leadership behavior instead of a lucky instinct. That is what workshops, intensives, and audits are designed to build.
